An expert in brand strategy, integrated marketing communications and marketing management, R.J. is founder and principal strategist at Murray Brand Communications, Inc. Prior to establishing Murray Brand in 1999, R.J. served in senior marketing, brand management, sales and operations positions at IBM, The TIMEC Group and Telescan Systems.
Since its founding, Murray Brand Communications has earned an international reputation for its work in brand strategy, design and integrated marketing communications. As a result, the company has earned more than 150 national and international brand strategy and designs awards and had its work featured in multiple periodicals including BrandWeek, Packaging Design Magazine and Graphics Design, USA.
R.J. earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Poly, and as an IBM Golden Circle award winner attended IBM's Advanced Business Institute at Harvard Business School. He has been a guest lecturer at Harvard's Graduate School of Design, the University of California at Davis, Graduate School of Management and Cal Poly's Orfalea College of Business as well as at multiple professional and business conferences.
Senior Design Director
An international award-winning designer and 22 year design veteran, Tom joined Murray Brand Communications in 2003 as a design director specializing in brand identity and packaging design. Previously, his professional experience included 8 years at SBG Partners and 4 years at Enterprise IG where he held multiple design positions including that of design director.
An expert in brand identity, package design and editorial layout, Tom has served as a senior designer or design director on projects for Nestle, Coca Cola, the San Francisco Giants, Del Monte, Clorox, Safeway and Kraft Foods. Since joining the Murray Brand Communications staff, he has served as the senior creative on projects including the redesign of the entire Cranium identity and portfolio, Wal-Mart, Broderbund Software, Nonni's Food Company, ConAgra Foods, Butterball Turkey Company, Hebrew National, Cott Beverages and Nuance Software.
During the past 4 years, creative teams directed by Tom have earned industry-wide recognition as they have been honored with 18 international and domestic brand strategy and design awards. Awards include the American Graphic Design Award for packaging and brand identity as well as the Global Beverage Packaging Award.
John Murray P.E., MBA
Director of Brand Strategy and Project Management
A specialist in brand strategy and project management, John joined Murray Brand Communications in 2001. Prior to joining the team, John served as product manager for Market Tools, Inc. where he managed the team responsible for creating the company's Internet-based qualitative research products. He was also a project manager with IBM's Global Services Division and a product manager at Troxler Electronic Laboratories.
Since joining the Murray Brand staff, John has developed brand positioning strategies and led design projects for clients including E&J Gallo, Clorox-Liquid PLUMR, ConAgra Foods, Amour Eckrich, Broderbund Software, Bay Prime, Perdue Farms, Nonni's Food Company and the Sonoma County Wine Grape Commission.
John and his creative associates have received more than twenty national design awards for their work. What's more, he and his team have been the featured cover story in Brandweek and Package Design Magazine in 2010 and 2011 respectively for their work on Nonni's Food Company packaging as well as the Perdue Farms brand redesign.
John earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering from Cal Poly and an MBA in Marketing from the University of California, Davis. He is also a California State licensed professional engineer.
Director - Murray Brand Communications, London
An internationally recognized designer and Clio Award Winner, Ray joined the Murray Brand Communications staff as a design director in August of 2003. Prior to "crossing the pond", his 20-year design career included working at several prestigious London-based agencies including the Lowey Group where he served as design director.
An expert in packaging, editorial layout, brand identity, P-O-S design and brand principles, Ray managed major projects while in the U.K. for clients including Boots, Tesco Supermarkets, The British Airport Authority and Berkeley Property Development. Since joining the Murray Brand team, Ray has directed creative engagements for ConAgra - Butterball Deli, Broderbund Software - Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, Accessories Marketing - Slime, ConAgra - Peter Eckrich Deli and Perdue Farms.
During the past 4 years, the excellence of Ray's work has been recognized both nationally and internationally as he has won 6 American Graphic Design Awards and 1 Beverage Packaging International Award. Clients for whom these honors were gained include Perdue Farms, Broderbund Software, Cranium and New Sun Nutrition.
Manager, Accounting & Finance
A native of Beijing, China, Jane joined Murray Brand Communication in 2000. Since her arrival, she has managed all agency accounting and financial issues including AR, AP, payroll and financing. Previously, Jane served as a staff accountant at Providian Financial Services in San Francisco and as a project manager at Refax Corporation, China.
A graduate of Beijing Foreign Language University, Jane holds a degree in Communications and English. She also earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and economics from Sonoma State University.
In her free time, Jane enjoys hiking, home renovation, gardening, playing the piano and reading.
